–Who we are–

Syn Studio, founded in 2007, is a small private art school that teaches drawing, painting, comics, digital illustration and design, mainly in the service of concept art – which is what we specialize in.

The first time you pick up an official art book for your favourite sci-fi or fantasy movie, television show or video game, you will see examples of concept art. This is the initial design of the characters, creatures, environments, props and vehicles that populate the visual universe of that particular entertainment product. If you are like most people, you will flip through the pages, say « cool » or « neato » a few times then put the book down and generally NOT have a life-changing experience…

BUT… if you have the soul of a concept artist, then you will realize that someone was actually paid to produce the concept art that you are drooling over and your life will never be the same again! You will be obsessed with becoming a concept artist and you’ll search far and wide to see what your options are. Then you will realize that it is one of the most sought after jobs in an incredibly competitive industry with hundreds of artists applying for each open position. If have the courage to confront the reality of the intense competition then you will realize that you need serious training to improve your skills and achieve your dream.

There are only a few schools around the world where you can learn concept art from actual world-class concept artists working on the most exciting AAA games and blockbuster films currently in production. And of these schools, Syn Studio is the only school that is really affordable. Other comparable schools cost at least twice as much and some approach ten times as much! Without Syn Studio, many of our alumni who are now living their dreams as professional concept artists would never have been able to afford a proper education in the first place. That fact gives us our sense of purpose and highest calling. Our mission is to provide the highest value concept art education on the planet. We help the most passionate and hardworking artists in the world achieve their dreams when no one else is willing or able.

We believe that great artists are NOT born. They are made. We focus on training over talent and we help foster a growth mindset in our students, staff and the broader community. At Syn Studio, we are all learning and growing and becoming our best selves as fast as possible!
